A Golden Doodle is a cross between a purebred Golden Retriever
(usually the mom) and a Standard Poodle (Dad). They were
originally developed in Australia as Therapy Dogs, but they
now tremendously popular in North America as well.
Essentially, the result is a large dog which inherits the
temperment and intelligence of a Golden Retriever, with a
coat which is either a low-shedding to no-shedding soft hair
which is usually hypo-allergenic.
In addition, the puppies come in a variety of colours, such
as black, gold or cream. The Adult's coats will vary dog to
dog between flat, wavey or curly.
There is an excellent page on the DogBreedInfo site dedicated
to this wonderful breed. See the
GoldenDoodle page for the details.
Given that they are a cross breed, they are not recognized
by the Canadian Kennel Club.
